9/17/2023 0 Comments Deadmau5 unplugged meaning![]() From start to finish these songs seem like they keep every instrument/synth at 0dB and it gets really overwhelming, boring, and formulaic. They always have some super loud super saw with the same snare build up that leads to some incoherent drop with the same "wood" sample thing hitting random notes over some crunchy bass sound. and those vibes just seem so generic and forced to me. Now I contrast this to other producers/songs out there. What's meant to be heard is heard and none of the audio ever sounds/feels overwhelming. The elements in his songs sit well in the mix too. I can't think of any other minimalistic electronic song that can capture my attention like that for nearly 10 damn minutes and still thirst for a replay/rewind. For example, one of my favorite songs of his, 71c is the same freaking chord progression loop throughout the whole song, yet the way that synth plays out, it feels like every play of that one progression is vocalized/LFO'd slightly differently, making it mesmerizing. His command of music tools makes his expressions of these elements interesting and unique. His chord progressions, arpegs, and melodies are enjoyable and there almost always seems to be some subtle element added to them that makes them memorable. ![]() I feel that his composition is very well done. (I think the distinction between these two elements is a bit overlooked in electronic music-making communities these days) You have to give Dark Side of the Moon a listen before you even grasp why they're so legendary.įor me at least, I feel that I place him above other producers because he's good at both songwriting AND music production. reminiscent of the classic Pink Floyd experience.Īnd if all you had ever heard by Pink Floyd was Atom Heart Mother (one of their earlier albums) than I wouldn't expect you to understand why they're so great either. I didn't even understand how fucking artistic this album was until I smoked weed along with it. If you smoke weed, take some and than sit down and listen while 1<2. Strobe is better with headphones because you can hear the excellent panning work he does in the intro, and Closer is better with headphones or high quality speakers because there are a lot of subtle mid frequencies that are purposefully turned down in the mix, always making us crave them more.Īnd also, excluding the Nine Inch Nails cover that somehow made it on the album, while 1<2 is a pure masterpiece, unlike any work he has ever done, and he deserves to be worshipped like a god just for this album alone. Just listen to Strobe, Right this Second, and Closer. He's extremely prolific, hyper-melodic, and his music often escapes the edm genre in moments that are universally and emotionally engaging on a much higher level than just great songs to dance to, as beautiful as dance music can be. ![]() Official Site Twitter Instagram Twitch YouTube Facebookĭownload Joel's misc or older works here:
